Edizione: "one of the great adventure stories of our time--- a magnificent story of the world's last frontier" - dustjacket.<br> as one of the great heros of the last century tenzing’s name stands with those like amundsen, scott, lindberg, hillary, gagarin and armstrong as those who inspired, and largly defined, the 20th century. tenzing is of course the “humble sherpa” who accompanied sir edmund hillary to the peak of mt. everest in 1953. western cultural bias, along with langage and essesability barriors, focused most of the fame for the accomplishement on hillary, but tenzing’s contributions were always recognized and he became without a doubt the most internationally famous himalayan of his time. this is his story in his own words (as told to james ramsey ullman) of his amazing journey from poor and humble beginnings to, quite literally, the top of the world.
