First Edition, a copy with fine provenance, being Mr. Shattuck's own copy, inscribed and gifted by him to his relation Francis S. Peabody, and with Francis Peabody's ownership initials to the front free-fly. With large folding maps of the Yucatan Peninsula and of the Northern Part of the Peninsula and with a great number of plates incorporating photographs of various areas of the Yucatan, additional illustrations throughout the text. Large, thick 4to, publisher's original green cloth, the upper cover and spine lettered in gilt. xvii, [1], 574, [2] pp. A very good copy, the cloth showing some evidence of use and age, the binding strong, the text-block, maps and illustrations all in excellent condition. a bit of mellowing to the cloth, still a pleasing and handsome copy.
