Descrizione

First Heritage Press Edition, being the first trade issue of the book designed for the Limited Editions Club. Laid in is the Heritage Club 'Sandglass' perspective for this book humorously entitled "Fish Don't Perspire". Very handsomely illustrated with wash-drawings and engravings by Douglas W. Gorsline, both on plates and throughout the text, and with large woodcut-style initials throughout. 4to, in the publisher's original buff paper-covered boards printed with an elaborate design in aqua, backed in aqua cloth which is gilt lettered and decorated on the spine. xlii, 316 pp. A fine copy, but for the light mellowing to the spine panel and touch of wear at the corners this copy is nearly as pristine.

Edizione: a very handsome printing of this classic work and richly illustrated by douglas w. gorsling. though he worked in media including lithography, painting, and etching, the artists realism style was actually influenced by photography movements such as those by étienne-jules marey and edweard muybridge. this work was published one year after his election to full academician at the national academy of design.<br> walton's angler has been described as "full of wisdom, kindly humour, and charity; it is one of the most delightful and care-dispelling books in the language." "more than most authors he lives in his writings, which are the pure expression of a kind, humorous and pious soul in love with nature, while the expression itself is unique for apparent simplicity which is really elaborately studied art" (dnb).
