Descrizione

Reprint of the 1904 translation of this classic tale with the plates now rendered in colour. With many illustrations from drawings all throughout the text, and a colour frontispiece, a colour illustrated titlepage, and eight colour plates, all of which are by Charles Copeland 8vo, in the original black cloth binding with gilt letters on the spine, the upper cover featuring a colour pictorial pastedown within a blind-ruled frame. 212. A nice copy, the text is very clean and fresh though a bit shaken, one plate loose with a little loss to the top inner corner not effecting the image, the binding is bright and clean, unfaded and with firm hinges, rubbed just a bit and with a little bumping to the extremities.

Edizione: a charmingly illustrated and rarely seen edition of this beloved story. in spite of a few minor setbacks to the condition this is still a very fresh and attractive copy. this reprint is superior to the first printing as copeland's delightful plates are now rendered in colour. one could also easily argue that the bright colour pastedown makes for a much more attractive binding for this printing as well.<br> the author, carlo lorenzini, had ?so little confidence in his own literary ability that he wrote under the assumed name of c. collodi? which was the name of his native village. time has of course proven his lack of confidence to be in error as, for well over a century now, pinocchio has been one of the world's most beloved stories.
