The original photograph and the text very probably have their origin in the Public Relations Division of Pan Am Airways itself. The company probably published these materials in the early 1970s: advertising with Pan Am's importance in the history of aviation. The photograph in a large format (ca. 24,2 x 30,4 cm) shows the christianing of Pan Am World Airways Jet Clipper "America" in 1958 by First Lady Mamie Eisenhower. The present photograph probably was made around 1970. There is a longer title mounted at the back side of the photograph: "History in the Making / Thousands of invited guests gathered at Washington's National Airport to witness the Christening of Pan American World Airways Jet Clipper "America", October 16th 1958, by the Nation's First Lady, Mamie Eisenhower. The aircraft later departed carrying government officials and civic leaders to Brussels in record-breaking time". Additionally there is a text on the history of Pan Am as a simple copy by the Pan Am Public Relations Division. The text has the title: Pan Am's Aviation "Firsts" (3 pages). Rare original photograph and authentic public relations material on Pan Am's history from early 1970s!
