12mo (134x84 mm), contemporary full marbled leather binding, gilt title and decorations at spine, marbled paper at paste-downs and free-leaves, silk bookmark; pp. 500, [2] folding plates. Engraved head-pieces at the beginning of each book. Two plates in the end, both entitled: “Tabula geographica specialis locorum de quibus apud Caesarem fit mentio. 1810”. ONE OF THE MANY EDITIONS OF THIS POPULAR CLASSIC WORK BY GIULIO CESARE ISSUED IN LYON IN THE NINETEENTH CENTURY. The Edithor of this work should be the Jesuit Father Jean Nicolas Loriquet, a French theologian and historian (1760 - 1845). A.M.D.G. (= Ad maiorem Dei gloriam or ad majorem Dei gloriam) is the Latin motto of the Society of Jesus (Jesuits), a religious order of the Catholic Church. It means "For the greater glory of God". Prov.: Handwritten ownership pencil inscription at half-title page and at p. 1 (G. De Geest). Rif.: This edition is not in ICCU, which registers many other similar editions published in Lyon by Rusand. OCLC, 24642955 (one copy in USA at the Columbia University Libraries, New York) and 457400030 (one copy in France at the Bibliothèque nationale de France, Paris). Cond.: Traces of use to the binding (front joint split and repaired, wear at corners and at end-spines). Foxing. Overall, a good copy.
