RARE comprehensive history of The Alliance Israélite Universelle (AIU) (Hebrew: Kol Israel Haverim‬) - a Paris-based international Jewish organization founded in 1860 by the French statesman Adolphe Crémieux to safeguard the human rights of Jews around the world. The organization promotes the ideals of Jewish self-defense and self-sufficiency through education and professional development and is noted for establishing French-language schools for Jewish children throughout the Mediterranean in the 19th and early 20th century. The author - Narcisse Leven (1833-1915), a lawyer by profession, was one of the original founders of the Alliance israélite universelle and its general secretary from 1863 to 1883, its vice-president from 1883 to 1898, and its president beginning in 1898. Pages yellowing and rough-cut (as published). [VOL.I]: Spine faded/yellowing. Spine bottom edge missing. Spine upper edge peeling. Binding slightly loose and visible between two front whitepages. Stamp on pre-title and title pages. Pre-title page bottom part torn-out/tattered. Several pages fore edge slightly tattered- NO damage to text. Few first pages upper corner wrinkled. [VOL.II]: Peeling-mark on front cover upper corner. Spine edges and hinges heavily rubbed. Spine upper edge tattered/partly torn. Spine rear hinge upper half cracked. Binding slightly loose and visible on inner cover.
