Large 8vo, in the publisher's very attractive decorated blue cloth, the spine and upper covers gilt lettered and in an English country motif in gilt, green, black and ivory, t.e.g. xi, 372., 8 ads. pp. A fine, bright and handsome copy, with just a touch on occasion of the usual foxing.

Edizione: a beautifully written and illustrated history and tour of the english west midlands, known for being called the land of shakespeare. the artist, frederick whitehead, was a member of the royal birmingham society of artists and exhibited his first painting there in 1870 at the age of eighteen. he also exhibited with the royal academy from 1881 to 1893. his work appeared in the exhibitions of leading galleries in britain and he held a number of successful private exhibitions in london.
