During the spring of 2000, a retrospective exhibition devoted to the oeuvre of Theo van Doesburg (1883-1931) was held in the Centraal Museum in Utrecht and in the Kroller-Muller Museum in Otterlo. This is the largest and most comprehensive museum overview of this artist ever given. Theo van Doesburg was the 20th century avant-garde par excellence. He was active in the fields of visual arts, architecture and literature. He was also an important art theorist. Van Doesburg played a central and international role in the modern art of the first half of this century. This catalog raisonne of Van Doesburg's complete oeuvre was published to accompany the exhibition. Both visual and literary work, such as fairy tales, stories and poems by Van Doesburg, are included in this catalogue. Many of Van Doesburg's works have been preserved, from loose sheets from sketchbooks and unstretched canvases to stained-glass windows and architectural drawings. In total, around 2000 works have been researched and documented by a group of young art historians over a period of three years. The catalog raisonne is also a complete revision of the dating of Van Doesburg's work. New.
