small 4to [26 x 19 cm]; 2 volumes, xix, 470; xiii, 471-1018 pp, 48 fine color plates including frontispieces, 9 foldout color maps, 506 illustrations from photos and drwgs, index. original cloth with pictorial embossed and raised illustration in gilt, gilt spine lettering, pictorial endpapers, top edge gilted, some light rubbing at edges, inscribed, else a near fine set, clean throughout. A picture of this book is available upon re A magnificent production on all aspects of the Uganda area, with an emphasis on nature and the peoples. The author was Commissioner of the Uganda Protectorate and a gold medal winner of the Royal Scottish Geographical Society and the Zoological Society and obviously a man of many talents, given his excellent and detailed descriptions and fine paintings. All but 2 of the color paintings are by the author and they cover natural history subjects, animals and plants.
