Description

Sm. 4to., Best Edition, on laid paper, with 37 plates on 16 and numerous illustrations, maps and plans in the text, neat signature on front paste-down; cloth, gilt back, a near fine copy in price-clipped dustwrapper. The first separate history of the town for forty years, the work was first published in 1964 to mark the achievement of County Borough status. The work was minimally altered for a second edition in 1966, but wholly revised and expanded (though with fewer plates) by two of the original three authors for this third and best edition.
