12mo [17.5 x 12.5 cm]; vi, [5] - 293 pp, index, includes 100 page catalogue of 956 varieties with descriptions. original blue cloth, decorated in black with gilt title lettering on front cover and spine, lightly rubbed at spine ends, signature on endpaper, else a fine clean copy with bright covers and original decorated endpapers. He provides details on growing and cultivation, propagation, exhibiting, growing under glass, colors, and detailed lists of varieties, the people who raise the best roses, with the varieties and dates introduced. The catalogue of varieties lists 956 varieties, each with habits, description and hereditary data. The author had the Mount Hope Nurseries in Rochester, NY, and was the son of George Ellwanger.
