Description

2 volumes. First edition, early reprint. With ten illustrations from contemporary sources. 8vo, publisher's gray/tan cloth, lettered on the spines in gilt within a brown field gilt ruled, and in the original dustjackets and slipcase. xvii, 332; 333-681pp. The text and cloth are fine and fresh and look nearly as new, the jackets with a bit of edge wear and chipping but still quite attractive, the slipcase also a bit toned and work but attractive as well.

Edizione: a handsome set retaining the jackets and slipcase. "this book by david c. mearns concerns the largest single privately owned collection of lincoln papers, the owner of that collection, the custodians of it who used it in the writing of a ten-volume work they titled abraham lincoln: a history, others who wanted to use it and were refused access, and a variety of myths that arose around the collection" (-from carl sandburg's introduction).
