A Volkmar Wentzel was a noted photographer and photographic historian who helped National Geographic preserve its collection. This is the story, told for the first time, of Cetshwayo, last of the great Zulu kings. In 1879 his army of warriors inflicted on the British Army one of the most humiliating defeats in their records at the battle of Isandhlwana. The narrative is based on the account of eye-witnesses and on original documents. The author had served as minister in the South African government. Interesting appendices including list of Zulu regiments, uniforms, documents, the feast of first fruits, etc.
