The Kabakovs and the avant-gardes

Ilya e Emilia Kabakov, nati in Unione Sovietica nel 1933 e nel 1945, da più di 30 anni residenti negli Stati Uniti, sono considerati tra i più significativi artisti russi contemporanei. Nell’ottobre 2017 la Tate Modern di Londra consacrerà loro una grande retrospettiva. Il libro documenta la mostra progettata dai Kabakov per lo “Spazio -1” di Lugano, nel 2016. Sette importanti opere della coppia d’artisti dialogano con i capolavori delle avanguardie storiche presenti nella Collezione Giancarlo e Danna Olgiati. Ilya and Emila Kabakov were born in the Soviet Union in 1933 and in 1945, respectively, and have lived in the United States for the past three decades. They are considered among the foremost contemporary Russian artists. In October 2017 Tate Modern in London will dedicate a major retrospective to their work. This book documents the exhibition designed by the Kabakovs for “Spazio -1” in Lugano, in 2016. Seven of the two artists’ most important works converse with the masterpieces of the historical avant-gardes in the Giancarlo and Danna Olgiati Collection.
