8vo [19.5 x 13 cm]; xii, 258, [vi, ads] pp, 6 foldout colored lithographed plates (chromolithographs), numerous other illustrations including full-page, index. original green cloth, gilt lettering on front cover and spine with gilt and black decorations, spine ends a little frayed, covers lightly rubbed, internally clean, very good copy. A picture of this book is available upon request by email. Hibberd was a popular garden writer in Victorian England. Stock 1231 Originally published in 1864 with the title 'The Rose Book; A Practical Treatise on the Culture of the Rose' but with no color plates. Later editions, either had less color plates or none at all. List of hundreds of rose varieties. Attractively produced work with excellent illustrations. This copy includes a loose catalogue of the McGredy Roses for 1956-57, 30 pages filled with color illustrations and rose descriptions.
