Very Scarce First Edition of a book rarely found except in modern reprint format. Tinted lithograph frontispiece and title-page, 6 tinted lithograph plates, wood-engraved illustrations throughout, some quite large. Small 8vo, in the publisher's original royal blue ribbed cloth over boards, the upper cover with lavish all-over gilt decoration in an ornate design featuring stylized vines and flowers and with gilt lettering, the spine gilt lettered and decorated, the rear cover decorated in blind. [ii, 1-5], 6-91, 30 catatalogue pp. A very nicely preserved copy of this rarely found children's gem, the binding attractive and bright, old mark to rear cover, the upper covert and spine panel still very fresh and with vivid gilt, the front endleaves with separation, the binding still firm and the text-block still tight, the pages fresh and clean, as are the plates.

Edizione: rare, we have seen only two copies of the original printings available on the market, and worldcat shows only five copies in institutional holdings.<br> the stories included are; sunshine and showers; the children of pine island; the double prayer; the story of a pearl; the shooting star (verse); the blending of the roses; the mother bird; a visit to the ruins; piers gaveston's monument; samphire gathering; and, flowers.
