Description

First edition early reprint. Illustrated half-title, titlepage, and an additional illustration by Diana Thorne. 8vo, publisher's original dark green cloth lettered on the upper cover and spine in gilt, in the original colour illustrated dustjacket. 270 pp. Uncommon in such bright condition, internally fine, the paper fresh and clean with no foxing or toning, which is very uncommon, the hinges sturdy and firm, the cloth with a little spotting, likely from oxidation to the war-standards materials used in its production, the jacket with a bit of toning but bright and attractive with exceptionally little wear or chipping and a small nearly unnoticeable closed tear.

Edizione: a book hard to find in nice condition. reminding us that not all heroes are human this first followup to bertrand shurtleff's very popular awol tells the stories of two other dogs in the united states army's k-9 corp. spareribs is a funny-looking messenger dog of questionable pedigree and husky, a magnificent specimen of the breed for which he is named, is trained to accompany reconnaissance parties. while husky and spareribs may be fictional, their stories are representational of the roughly twenty thousand brave and patriotic pooches who served in the united states army, marine corps, and coast guard during the second world war.
