Imperial oblong folio (735 x 570 mm). Latin manuscript on vellum. 1 p. With Gregory's lead bulla attached on a hemp cord. Magnificent bull from the fourth year of Gregory's pontificate (1572-85), addressed to Gaspard Rouen, abbot of the Premonstratensian monastery in Notre-Dame de L'Isle-Dieu in the diocese of Rouen, confirming the actions taken by his predecessors and the French kings concerning the monastery. With two initials to the plica and several first line initials in beautiful floral calligraphy. - Pope Gregory XIII is best remembered for commissioning the Gregorian calendar, which was introduced in 1582. - Countersigned by several members of the Papal Chancery and summarized in Latin (verso). Traces of folds. Two larger water stains and some tears.
