12mo [16 x 10.5 cm]; vi, [ii, ads], 168 pp, 3 hand colored plates including frontis, with the half title page. contemporary half calf, marbled boards, spine title lettering faded, rubbed, corner wear to covers, interior quite good and clean, unmarked, the frontis view has been re-mounted, the other plates are of costumes. A picture of this book is available upon r A narrative of the author's travels in Crimea and her stay in village of Karagoss, for four years ending March 1920. The author based the book on a series of letters she wrote to a friend during her stay, and describes the people, customs, conditions, etc. Atabey 587. Robinson 240: 'Objective, factual and thorough. . . with a clear and unprejudiced eye, telling us plenty about the land and its people but nothing about herself'. The Crimean Tatars (Tartars) with whom she lived treated her and her children who were with here, with unfailing courtesy.
