Description

8vo., First and Sole Edition, on laid paper, with a frontispiece and 18 full-page illustrations in the text; original pictorial cloth printed in orange, red and black, backstrip lettered in red and black, covers lightly age-soiled, hinges starting (but binding wholly sound) else a very good, bright, clean copy. Unusually nice copy of Maxim's semi-humorous debunk of the opportunities for wealth at the famous tables. 'I am able to give to the readers of this little work some idea of how the majority of the players at Monte Carlo think and reason on the subject of gambling. This affords me an opportunity of pointing out the errors in their mathematical calculations and the fallacies of their logic and reasoning'. One supposes that, in terms of wealth, his invention of the machine-gun was a rather safer bet. SCARCE
