Description

FIRST EDITION OF THE AUTHENTIC TEXT OF THIS HUNTING CLASSIC, ONE OF THE GREAT HUNTING BOOKS OF THE RENAISSANCE. It had originally been published in 1625 as "La chasse royale", but that edition was extremely inaccurate and deleted significant portions of the work. That text was reprinted in 1857 and 1858. In 1859 Chevreul published this edition, the first edition based on the original manuscript. From a total edition of 225 copies, this is one of 200 copies on fine laid paper, with the frontispiece portrait on Chine applique. 8vo. Original wraps. Wraps lightly worn, internally uncut and clean. Thiebaud 171-172; Schwerdt I, 105.
