Edizione: a very lovely and scarce a. & c. black travel book on japan. menpes has combined the soft, delicacy of japanese art with a western sense of form and color. the result are these one hundred beautiful, colour plates of old world japan. the accompanying text is an artist?s reflections of the country with a special emphasis on its life and art. this sets it apart from the publisher's other books on japan, which focused primarily on landscapes, views, and gardens. in these paintings menpes richly conveys much more about the peoples of japan; their lives and culture.
