8vo [21 x 14.5 cm]; xii, 322, [ii, ads] pp, frontis, illustrations including full-page, 5 maps. original pictorial cloth with gilt picture of author in small boat, gilt lettering on spine, internal hinge cracked but firm, spine ends slightly frayed, colored map of Mississippi from other source (c. 1915) on endpaper, near fine, clean copy. A picture 'Excellent account of people, social conditions, economics and political life but is of special significance on natural history' (Bruns - Angling Books of the Americas 164). Not in Sabin or Howes. His sneak-box was a small duck hunters' boat that looked like a row-boat. The author had also written 'Voyage of the Paper Canoe.' A classic American travel.
