Description

Gutes Ex. - Private Xerokopie / Fotokopie / Copy. - Englisch. - Man's attempt to reach cultural heights has been in constant conflict with the agents of his natural environment such as landscape, the climate, the soil and parasites, all of which are debilitating factors to his onward march to progress. Therefore complete subjugation of the forces of nature is impossible. Because of this man continues to strive in an effort to seek means of improving his economic and social position by evolving and acquiring new and better techniques. Inspite of this continous effort to eka out a living the forces of natural environment continue to weigh heavily on human communities every-where especially where civilisation is still at a very low ebb. This is the acute problem haunting the people of Menka area in their effort to carry out economic activities which constitute the subject matter of this dissertation u/hich is written in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the award of a graduate diploma (DIPCEG) in Geography which is an equivalent to a B.A. degree. Prominent among the environment problems faced by Menka people is the landscape which is characterised by a confused Juxtaposition of highlands, steep sided and deeply incised valleys which are in reality gorges. The climate which is characterised by sudden changes within relatively short distances, constant heat, seasonal rainstorms and strong winds is very unfavourable. The soil is stony and skelatal in nature and is constantly leached. All these natural defects as well as non existence of road infrastructure coupled with the remoteness of its location from the transforming impact of modern influence have greatly contributed in retarding economic activities in Menka area. .
