Description
Aus der Bibliothek von Prof. Wolfgang Haase, langjigem Herausgeber der ANRW und des International Journal of the Classical Tradition (IJCT) / From the library of Prof. Wolfgang Haase, long-time editor of ANRW and the International Journal of the Classical Tradition (IJCT). - sehr guter Zustand / very good condition - My gratitude goes to all those students, fellow scholars, poets, and friends over my past thirty-five years of teaching Dante and his circle who were so helpful in one way or another in the formation of these six volumes of the Commedia. I am especially grateful to Guy Raffa, Glen Steinberg, Lisa Holekamp, Denise Heilbronn-Gaines, and Barbara Manfredi, as well as to those many other now outstanding italianisti and dantisti who allowed me the pleasure of directing their doctoral work. -- I have already expressed my views on translating Dante in an essay called On Being a Good Lover, which appears in the Inferno volume of The Penguin Classics edition of the Commedia as well as in the 1995 Portable Dante. I havent changed my mind, although I have changed my translation in a number of places. As the careful reader of the present edition will see, I have made more than 500 revisions. -- For the Italian critical text of the Commedia I have used the most recent one established by Georgio Petrocchi for the national edition of The Italian Dante Society, the first edition of which was published by Arnoldo Mondadori (Milan, 1966-67). Any changes I have made to the text are indicated and discussed in my notes. ISBN 9780253336491
