RARE annotated German translation of letters by the legendary Hammurabi (died 1750 BC in Babylon) - the sixth king of the First Babylonian Dynasty, reigning from 1792BC to 1750BC (according to the Middle Chronology). The translator, who also wrote a comprehensive introduction to the letters and the period is Arthur Franz Eduard Ungnad (1879-1947) was an eminent scholar of Semitic languages and Assyriologist. Includes a b&w plate with reproduction of a letter by Hammurabi and a b&w frontispiece with reproduction of relief depicting Hammurabi. 144x210mm. 135 pages. Dark-blue Hardcover with gilt lettering on front and spine. Cover and spine yellowing, rubbed and slightly stained. Cover corners bumped and partly peeling. Spine edges peeling. Spine bottom edge torn. Pencil marks near text on several pages. Pages browning. [SUMMARY]: This extremely rare book is overall in good condition.
