Description

First edition, provenance of Capt. Anne Eloise Sweeney, later Lieutenant Colonel Sweeney and Deputy Director of the Women's Army Corps. With numerous black and white illustrations from photographs by Jacie Martin, official WAAC photographer, and with four pages of music for 'The Waac Is In Back of You.' 8vo, publisher's original tan buckram decoratively lettered on the upper cover and spine in dark brown, and in the original dustjacket. xx, [5], 276pp. A fine copy, strikingly well preserved. Capt. Anne Eloise Sweeney's ownership notation obscured but still readable though just barely. List of the first class of WAACs with several neat pencil checks next to various women's names.

Edizione: very scarce, especially so in such nice condition. written by jean stansbury, a newspaper reporter and free lance author under the direction of the official photographer for the first group of officer candidates in training for the waac, this is a 'fictionalized biography' of a young and ambitious woman who hears the call of her country who needs her and decides to enlist in the woman's army auxiliary corps.<br> while the heroine of this narrative may be fictional, ms. martin's background ensures that the events and experiences are genuine.
