Description
Einband ganz leicht berieben. - Large scale assessment influences national and international educational policy debates and reforms. Assessment data is increasingly used as a government instrument. However, within the contemporary realm of the current global testing regime both the cultural and the historical conditions of assessment are often neglected. This volume is therefore devoted to the reconstruction of "assessment cultures" (interpretation patterns, discourses, instruments, practices) and their involved groups of actors. The contributions cover examples of Western European, Eurasian, East Asian, Latin, and North American as well as international settings and refer to epochs ranging from the early modern period up to the current context. - Table of Contents: Christian Lundahl, The Organising Principles of Disciple Assessment in the Swedish School Ordinances, 1561-1724 -- Kathrin Berdelmann, Individuality in Numbers: The Emergence of Pedagogical Observation in the Context of Student Assessment in the 18th Century -- Nelli Piattoeva and Galina Gurova, Domesticating International Assessments in Russia: Historical Grievances, National Values, Scientific Rationality and Education Modernisation -- Angela Adriana Rengifo Correa, From the Experimental Examination to Educational Evaluation in Colombia: A Study in the Perspective of the History of Concepts, 1930-1970 -- Sverre Tveit, (Trans)national Trends and Cultures of Educational Assessment: Reception and Resistance of National Testing in Sweden and Norway during the Twentieth Century -- Mette Buchardt and Christian Ydesen, Testing the Culturally Deviant of the Welfare State: Greenlandic Children and the Children of Labour Migrants in Danish Minority Education, 1960-1970 -- Michaela Vogt, Primary School Attendance or Special Education: Historical Comparative Analysis of Student Files from the German Democratic Republic and the Federal Republic of Germany -- Maria Teresa Fl Petour, High-stakes Assessment Systems as a Historical Barrier in the Struggle for Change in Education: The Case of Chile -- Ethan Hutt and Jack Schneider, A Thin Line Between Love and Hate: Educational Assessment in the United States -- Cristina Alarcon, The Grundschulgutachten as part of an Assessment Culture: A German Story? -- Philippe Bongrand, From the Promotion to the Neutralisation of Emotions in Student Assessment: Instituting the Fiche Scolaire for Vocational Guidance in France, 1918-1922 -- Tanaka Koji, Retrospective and Prospective on the Educational Assessment in Post-war Japan -- Florian Waldow, Constellations of Actors and Fairness in Assessment in Germany, Sweden and England -- Alicia Mez, The Place of the Entrance Assessment in the Building of a Meritocratic Career Path in Argentina, 1863-2013 -- Camilla Addey, The Assessment Culture of International Organisations: "From Philosophical Doubt to Statistical Certainty" through the Appearance and Growth of International Large-Scale Assessments -- Martin Lawn, Governing through Assessment Data in the UK during the Late 20th Century: An Extreme Outlier?
