Description

8vo [23 x 16 cm]; xii, 469 pp, color frontis and 143 illustrations from photos, glossary of African words, list animals, map endpapers, showing route in blue, index. original pictorial gilt cloth with gilt lettering spine, gilt on front cover slightly rubbed, small inkstamp of Dr. Eugene Erikson on blank endpaper, else near fine, clean throughout. A picture of this book is available upon request by email. The author traveled extensively through central Africa (including Nigeria, Lake Chad, Congo, Uganda, Tanzania, etc) when it was still largely wild, describing the native peoples and wildlife especially the larger mammals. He also produced a film in part based on these travels. The author admits to taking some liberties in making the film, although the book is stated to be more factual.
