12mo [19 x 12 cm]; xii, [13] - 192, illustrations with line drwgs, index. original printed paper covered boards, leather spine with gilt lines, chipped at head of spine, rubbed at edges, light foxing on few leaves, signature on title page, else a very good copy. A picture of this book is available upon request by email. First published in England in 1835 and in United States in 1837. Gabler G 24040: "Vines were cultivated in England at the time of this publication only against walls, upon roofs of buildings and under glass. Hoare's treatise on the cultivation of the grape vine in this manner became the standard reference work." See Hedrick p. 266. The dedication by George Brimmer states that Hoare's principles would "restore the confidence of the horticulturists of Boston and its vicinity." Catalog of the Massachusetts Horticultural Society p. 143.
