Incisione in rame, colorata d'epoca, mm 328x508, incisa dai fratelli Lucas e Jan Van Deutecum che firma in lastra. Raffigura tutto il sud est del continente dall'India alle Filippine. Tratta dal raro "Speculum Orbis Terrae", seconda edizione dell'atlante, curata dal figlio Cornelio con alcune varianti nel testo e nel numero delle tavole. De Jode (1509-1591) fu un cartografo, incisore, stampatore, editore attivo ad Anversa a metà del Cinquecento, nello stesso periodo di Ortelio, sebbene non sia stato in grado di uguagliare l'importanza dell'attività economica del rivale. Questo fece però si che le sue carte siano diventate decisamente più rare. Esemplare in ottimo stato di conservazione, piega all'angolo inferior sinistro.<BR>Copper engraving, original colour, mm 328x508, engraved by Joannes and Lucas van Deutecum, signed in the plate. <BR>It shows the Far East, with India, the Malay Peninsula (with 'Cingatola'), the Philippines & Moluccas. De Jode's source is Gastaldi the most important italian cartographer of the middle XVI century.<BR>Gerard De Jode was a competitor of Ortelius, active in the same period; but his atlas 'Speculum Orbis Terrarum' did not enjoy the same commercial success as Ortelius and now-a-days his maps are much rarer than Ortelius' ones.<BR>After the death of Gerard in 1591, the business was carried on by his widow and his son Cornelis, who re-issued the Speculum in 1593, most plates were newly engraved, and therefore making those of the first edition extremely rare.<BR>A very nice example with a fold in bottom left corner. <BR>
