8vo [22.5 x 15 cm]; lvi, 316 pp, 4 maps including frontis showing Best's route, reproduction of his signature, bibliog, index. original blue blind-stamped cloth, gilt vignette on covers, gilt spine title lettering, stain at edge of endpaper, covers bright, name on endpaper but a fine copy in a dust jacket (bit chipped, wear, short tear). A picture of this book is available upon r National Maritime Museum 415: 'Best commanded the tenth voyage sponsored by the East India Company. With two ships, the Dragon and Hoseander, he reached India in September 1612, set up a factory at Surat, and then proceeded to Achin, Sumatra. He returned to England with a valuable cargo in the Dragon, June 614.' Foster's introduction provides an excellent and detailed historical perspective, and the text is a detailed travel account, together with correspondence and court minutes.
