Juli 1941 in Rahway New Jersey (USA) ist ein amerikanischer Bildhauer, Zeichner und Objektk�nstler. . Er studierte 1962 am Pratt Institute of Design in Brooklyn, machte 1964 am Trinity College Hartford, Connecticut den Abschluss des Bachelor of Fine Arts und wechselte zu einem einsemestrigen Studium an die Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art in New York. Nebenher arbeitete er als Assistent in der Betty Parsons Gallery, wo er 1965 seine erste Einzelausstellung hatte. Obwohl er Anfangs von den Arbeiten von Agnes Martin und Ellsworth Kelly beeinflusst war, fand er rasch mit poetischen Skulpturen, Zeichnungen und Objekten seinen eigenen k�nstlerischen Weg. Der Schweizer Ausstellungsmacher Harald Szeemann bezeichnet Tuttles Werk als �postminimalistisch�. Durch die Teilnahme an dessen legend�r Ausstellung When Attitudes Become Form 1969 in der Kunsthalle Bern, wurde Tuttle bereits in den sp�n 1960er Jahren in Europa bekannt. . Richard Tuttle lebt und arbeitet in New York City und Santa Fe (New Mexico). // The Preliminary Works were originally exhibited at the Otis Art Institute, Los Angeles, California in the winter of 1976. The Portland Works were originally exhibited at the Northwest Artists Workshop, Portland, Oregon, in the spring of 1976. All pieces are watercolor on airmail writing block paper, and measure 6x9 inches. All works are to be hung at 52 1/2 inches center. The Preliminary Works are from the collection of Herb and Dorothy Vogel. This publication by Galerie Karsten Greve, Cologne, accompanies an exhibition from March 18 to April 23,1988, in Cologne, and from April 30 to May 28, 1988, at Thomas Segal Gallery, Boston.
