Descripción

RARE historical-critical study of the Book of Esther by Sigmund Jampel (1874-1934), an eminent Galician Bible scholar and rabbi who was among the first Jewish Bible scholars who recognized the value of archaeological and epigraphical finds for establishing the antiquity of the historical accounts of the Bible and the questioning of Wellhausen's hypotheses. This study takes into account the archaeological excavations of Susa, which authenticated the description of the royal palace in the Book of Esther, and includes an appendix by Marcel-Auguste Dieulafoy (1844-1920), a French archaeologist, noted for his excavations at Susa (modern-day Shush, Iran) in 1885. Contains many excerpts in Hebrew. 220x150mm. VIII+165 pages. Quarter-cloth marbled board Hardcover with gilt spine. Front cover slightly scratched. Cover and spine rubbed and somewhat stained. Cover edges and corners, and spine edges bumped and slightly peeling. Pencil marks on few pages and title-page. Few pages wrinkled. Several pages and text block edges slightly age-stained. Pages yellowing. [SUMMARY]: This extremely rare monograph on the biblical Book of Esther is in good condition.
