Sir Reginald Spence, prominent merchant, philanthropist and educationalist, spent much of his career in India. He was a prominent wine merchant (Master of the Worshipful Company of Distillers 1949-1950) and an eminent freemason (District Grand Master of Bombay and Northern India); the Lodge Reginald Spence was founded in his memory. A fervent educationalist, he co-founded Barnes School in Devlavi, one of the finest institutions of its type in Western India where a school house now bears his name.
