RARE monograph on ancient Jewish marriage laws as described in the Five Books of Moses, by Johann David Michaelis (1717-1791), the renowned German Protestant biblical scholar, orientalist and teacher, ordinary professor at Göttingen university from 1750, and a member of an influential family from Halle, members of which were the main force behind maintaining that solid discipline in Hebrew and the cognate languages which distinguished the University of Halle in the period of Pietism. 230x170mm. XVI+366 pages [+30]. Blue cloth rebound Hardcover with gilt lettering on spine. Cover slightly stained. Spine upper edge bumped. Small hole on spine front hinge. Ex-library copy with stamp on title page and rear whitepage. Grease stain on pages 239-338 edge - no damage to text. Pre-title page stained. Several pages upper corner wrinkled. Pages yellowing, age-stained and wavy. [SUMMARY]: This extremely rare book by a famous and eloquent 18th-century German biblical scholar is otherwise in good condition.
