Description
Satiro e ninfa in un paesaggio; la ninfa dorme sulla sinistra; un satiro la guarda e le sottrae il lenzuolo. Incisione della serie "Toneel van Sinnebeelden Geopent/Tot dienst van Schilders, Beeldhouders etc door A. Houbraken .II. Deel". Acquaforte, 1699 circa, firmata in basso a destra. Magnifica impressione, stampata su carta vergata coeva con margini sottili, ottimo stato di conservazione. Arnold Houbraken (28 marzo 1660 - 14 ottobre 1719) è stato un pittore e scrittore olandese di Dordrecht, oggi ricordato soprattutto come biografo dei pittori del Secolo d'oro olandese. Houbraken fu mandato prima a imparare la filettatura da Johannes de Haan, che lo introdusse all'incisione. Studiò poi con Jacobus Leveck e infine, per quattro anni, con Samuel van Hoogstraten. Arnold Houbraken dipinse quadri mitologici e religiosi, ritratti e paesaggi. È noto soprattutto per l'opera storica Il grande teatro dei pittori olandesi (1718-1721). Rara. Arnold Houbraken (28 March 1660 – 14 October 1719) was a Dutch painter and writer from Dordrecht, now remembered mainly as a biographer of Dutch Golden Age painters. Houbraken was sent first to learn threadtwisting from Johannes de Haan, who introduced him to engraving. He then studied with Jacobus Leveck and finally, four years with Samuel van Hoogstraten. Arnold Houbraken painted mythological and religious paintings, portraits and landscapes. He is best known for the art historical work The Great Theatre of Dutch Painters (1718–1721). Rare.
