Description

Copper engraving, mm 422x535, colored. No text on verso. One of the most decorative and beatiful maps of Brazil ever published, among the first maps not from portuguese sources, drawn after actual surveys by Georg Markgraf and Elias Herckmanns, originally in Barlaeus's Rervm per Octennivm in Brasilia published by Blaeu in 1647 and later inserted in Blaeu's Atlas Major.
Richly decorated with a highly interesting and decorative scene depicting life in a farm; the bottom part of the map depicts sea battles. The complete set of maps was also assembled into a large wall map, Brasilia qua parte paret Belgis. The maps then appeared in the Atlas Maior in 1662. Good condition, two light vertical long creases near centerfold reinforced on verso.
