Rara. Bibliografia Ruland, C., 1876. The Works of Raphael Santi da Urbino as represented in the Raphael Collection in the Royal Library at Windsor Castle, formed by the Prince Consort, 1853-1861 and completed by Her Majesty Queen Victoria, Weimar – Ruland p.140 A.IV.7 Etching, late 18th century, without signature and printing details. After Raphael. The composition derived from the Dance of Cupids, an engraving by Marcantonio Raimondi, reputedly after a design by Raphael, with the addition of two Cupids: one playing bagpipes, and the other a spinet. The work is very rare. An example exists in the Royal Collection "attributed to Blanchard". This is presumably the elder Auguste Blanchard pere who was active c. 1766-1841 [Royal Collection: 851886]. https://www.rct.uk/collection/851886 Also in the Royal Collection, there is a sheet depicting the Dance of the Muses that would appear to be the pendant of this work [Royal Collection: 851767]. https://www.rct.uk/collection/851767 François Thomas Blanchard, known as Auguste I Blanchard, born in Paris in 1766 and died in Luzarches on June 8, 18421, was a French engraver.
