Description

Book in mint unread condition. 116pp. A collection of essays dealing with aspects of life around the Victorian period in and concerning Ashton under Lyne, then in Lancashire. It includes such as the Industrial Archeology of Ashton where cotton mills abounded, Chartism and the Chartists and Nineteenth Century housing in Ashton including a number of excellent illustrations. It is also a record (including photographic) of what physically remains of the time. The book covers Stamford Park and what leisure meant in 1855 and Ashton's churches and chapels. It describes the area previously covered by Richmond Park and the streets and people from the area. The book concludes with a bibliography and further reading suggestions.
