Junker explored Africa from 1875 to 1886 including the mapping of the Congo River and exploring the Nile sources. He also established the identity of the Welle and Ubangi. According to Baker (Geographical Discovery and Exploration): ' he added very important details to the region', 'he succeeded in making very complete investigations into the question of the Welle river', 'he was able to correct a number of earlier travellers who had visited this region'. Junker received the gold medal of the Royal Geographical Society in 1887. He published 3 books of his exploration over a period of several years, all of which are included here. Originally published in German. The many excellent illustrations include the people, nature, plants, native artifacts. One of the best illustrated works on the area. The three volumes were done in the same style, size and cover decorations and were continuations of the author's explorations, although they are often only found separately.
