First edition in English. Translated from the Latin with a Life of the Author, by Robert Willis, M.D. 8vo, original green cloth with blindstamped and gilt decorated front cover, gilt lettering on spine. t.e.g. 592, letters 617, index 624. An unusually bright and clean copy.

Edizione: scarce collected works of william harvey, (1578-1657), best known for his discovery of the human circulatory system. he was 'physician extraordinary' to king james i and professor of anatomy and surgery in a variety of posts. it contains all of the works published by harvey, as well as works by harvey published in books by other authors. harvey was the first to describe completely and in detail the systemic circulation and properties of blood being pumped to the brain and body by the heart.<br> harvey was also prominent skeptic regarding allegations of witchcraft. he was one of the examiners of four women from lancashire accused of witchcraft in 1634, and as a consequence of his report, all of them were acquitted.<br> the sydenham society, named after dr.thomas sydenham (1624-1689), was founded in london in 1845 and issued 30 volumes on medicine between 1845 and 1857. dr. william harvey (1578-1657), best known for his discovery of the human circulatory system, was a personal physician of james i and professor of anatomy and surgery in a variety of posts.
