Description

Sm. 8vo., contemporary full tree calf, SPCK roundel blocked in blind on upper board, back with six bands ruled in gilt, red sprinkled edges, neatly rebacked with old backstrip laid down, an unusually bright, clean copy. Complete with half-title, and with the contemporary trade stamp of John Bird, bookbinder of Hatton Garden, on front paste-down. The Rivingtons were at this stage booksellers to SPCK. The Royalist divine Richard Allestree is generally regarded as the primary, if not sole, author, an attribution first given in Nichols' Anecdotes, ii. 603. SCARCE IN ANYTHING LIKE THIS CONDITION.
