With 48 beautiful color plates, 506 illustrations from drawings and photos, and 9 maps. 4to, publisher's original black cloth gilt lettered on spines, with gilt and white embossed pictorial decoration on upper covers, with original bright botanical endpapers, t.e.g. xiv, 470; xiii, 471-1018 pp. A handsome set, the text-blocks and illustrations and maps clean and fine, the cloth in pleasing condition, sometime restored at the backs using stronger cloth incorporating the original spine panels, the gilt work well preserved with light evidence of age, the hinges tight and strong and unbroken, a copy from the Carnegie Library with their bookplates and stamps, old shelf numbers removed at the spine panels, still a good set of this scarce work.
