Description
Edizione: a prose version of the stirring medievel epic, and made all the more so with the addiition of illustrations for the scribner's classics series. the chosen illustrator, peter hurd, was a protégée of n. c. wyeth and had studied under him along with two of wyeth's grown children, in chadds ford, pennsylvania. hurd later married the painter's eldest daughter, henriette wyeth. his illustrations are understandably reminiscent of n. c. wyeth's work, though his use of color is much more bold, almost fauvist. during the great depression the couple moved to new mexico, and hurd would later be best acclaimed for his western portraits and landscapes, quite a departure from the story of roland.
