Abridged English version of the author's more extensive treatise "La Traite Orientale: histoire des chasses la homme, organis es en Afrique depuis 15 ans pour les march s de l'Orient", aimed at exposing the African slave trade to the Anglo-Saxon world. "The author distinguishes three principal areas of man-hunting: the first is the from the Sudan and the Valley of the Nile to Morocco; the second, the Valley of the Nile itself; the third, the eastern coasts of Africa. Sales concentrate on three markets: the Mediterranean borders of Egypt; the island of Zanzibar; and finally, Arabia" (cf. Gay). E. F.
