large 8vo [25 x 17.5 cm]; ix, [i], 309 pp, frontis, 42 plates with tissue guards with letterpress, of which 25 plates are fine photogravures, 3 maps including 2 large folding maps in rear pocket, index. original green pictorial gilt cloth, gilt title lettering on spine and cover, gilt spine vignette, top edge gilted, edges bit rubbed, spine lightly faded but lettering clear, slight foxing on few end leaves, else very good+ sound and solid copy. A picture Neate W73. The author, America mountaineer and original A. A. C. member, explored the Canadian Rockies in the 1890s to the north of Kicking Horse Pass and south to Mt. Assiniboine. He made more than 20 first ascents of in the Canadian Rockies. This nicely illustrated work was first published as Camping in the Canadian Rockies in 1896 and is here expanded. Whale 1694. Lowther 1250: 'An account of camp life in the wilder parts of the Canadian Rocky Mountains, together with a description of the region around Banff, Lake Louise and Glacier, and a sketch of early explorations. . . one of the best early sources of information on the Alberta-British Columbia border region'.
