8vo [22.5 x 15.5 cm]; xvi, 262 pp, illus, vignette in green on title. original green pebbled cloth with gilt spine title lettering and decoration, near fine partly unopened copy in dj (price clipped, tape repairs on verso, chipped at edge, rubbed). A fascinating account of Dean's travels along the coasts of Africa, trading in gold, diamonds, ivory and ostrich plumes and his travels through the jungles trying to establish a Black Empire. He had known Cecil Rhodes, Conrad, Sir Alfred Milner, made and lost great fortunes, and recounts here his fifty years of adventures.
