Early beautifully rendered edition. With 33 steel-engraved plates and 17 wood cuts, with 2 full page maps by various engravers after William H. Bartlett. 8vo, original full, bright crimson cloth with elaborate gilt decorations to the spine, the covers with elaborate gilt overall designs framing a central gilt pictorial device of a Nile sailing boat. vi [2], 229 pp. A very fine copy with the plates and text-block very clean, the cloth and giltwork bright and beautifully preserved, a near pristine copy, scarce thus.

Edizione: a beautifully presented and elaborately bound edition of one of the most famous works on the nile. barllett's illustrations as always lend an exotic and realistic feel to the volume. a lovely 19th century travel and view book of egypt. history, local customs and especially places of interest, are described and illustrated with bartlett’s finely detailed engravings. a somewhat elusive title in the bartlett oeuvre, the illustrations are typical of his best work.
